The Gentoo forums are my favorite place to go to ask questions. There are always quick nice people, interesting topics, and quick responses.

This GNU/Linux support message board has become massive. Lots of discussions about numerous distributions. My favorite aspect of this board is that bellow the message you are looking at it shows similar topics.

Slower paced but active discussion. Several regulars. Distribution subgroups. Also check out alt.os.linux via Google Groups

I am not very familiar with this message board, but it seems to have a growing community and lots of information.

"News for Nerds. Stuff that matters." Slashdot is a very popular Linux/technology news summary site with lots of posting activity.

In house news stories as well as Open Source headlines from all over the web.

"Your Linux info source." This is the daily edition of Linux Weekly News.

HTML version of the Unix Timeline. This is very helpful to understanding where the current Unix like operating systems have come from. You can also grab it in post script from the Unix History Page

freshmeat.net has a huge collection of software that will run on the GNU/Linux operationg system that is mostly open source. Check out the vast array of software and keep an eye on what is new.

Information and reviews about the many distributions that exist.

GNU has created much of the software the is included in a GNU/Linux system. Such as compilers, editors, and tons more.

The Debian team explains what is ment by the older term "free software" and now more frequently used term "open source".

The General Public License which covers a large portion of Open Source software. Information about what it is and how one can use it.
